Gerty Theresa Cori was born in Prague in 1896 and emigrated to the US in 1922. She was admitted to medical school in Prague, when it was very difficult for women to gain access to higher education.
She was the third woman to win a Nobel Prize in science in 1947, and the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
A crater on Venus of 56km in diameter was named after her (see last photo for the actual image of this crater).
This porcelain ring dish is around 8cm in diameter. It was formed entirely by hand and glazed with my matte white and lava glaze, both of which I formulated and created.
Ceramic art rooted in the wonder of our planet
